Where necessary, an Adjustment can be made to segments in the Cervical Spine (neck) or Thoracic Spine (between your shoulders) to release ‘misaligned’ or ‘stuck’ joints that can be sending pain signals to your head and causing your nervous system to be over sensitive and cause the perception of headache.
By using massage on the neck, head and between the shoulders, the muscles that are tight and pulling on the joints can be relaxed. This releases tension and creates healing blood flow in the muscles to help ease the headache.
There are cases where tight muscles in and around the jaw joint can refer tension up into the head. Gently working around the TMJ and the surrounding joints in the skull can release an amazing amount of tension in the neck and head and relieve the cause of the headache. Often Chiropractors need to refer out to a Dentist to get a Splint made, if the cause of the headaches is from grinding or clenching your teeth.
Most headaches are at least, in some part, caused by, or exacerbated to some degree by the little things we have to do every day. Like the office chair we sit in, reading a book on the train, or slumping down on the couch after a long day at work. Like doing a workout every day, this can cause certain muscle groups to become too active or ‘tight’. Doing some stretching of the correct muscle groups regularly, is a great way to address the cause of the headaches, without needing any equipment or a visit to the Chiropractic office.
A bad desk setup, or sitting in front of the television, using your phone, or even how you commute for extended periods, can cause poor posture, tight muscles, locked joints and eventually neck pain, headaches and migraines.

Dr Matt the Principal Chiropractor at Shire Heathcare is off on a long needed break to go surfing in Sumatra.
He will be away from clinic from Wednesday the 5th of April, and will return to appointments on Tuesday the 18th of April

It important to make sure you refresh yourself occasionally to make sure that you bring the best form of yourself to your family life, professional relationships, and recreation.
When we are exhausted and depleted, then what we bring into our day is not the best that we can do.
Take some time out to relax, meditate, unwind, let go of what no longer is meant for you, and embrace the inevitable change that will happen, in the most positive manner possible.
Try getting out into nature, pursuing some creativity, whether it be making music, doing art, reading a book, playing sport, or whatever it is that excites you.
It so easy to be out of balance and do too much work and do too much for others without looking after yourself.
